MtSneffelsThe fourteener challenge is an award that recognizes soaring pilots who have used their skills to soar above 55 Colorado mountains, with peaks over 14,000 feet, commonly referred to as the "Fourteeners".

Colorado has 54 peaks whose summits tower above 14,000ft.  In addition, an extra fourteener has been included in the challenge, Challenger Point. This shares the same name as the award and it is the only peak with a direct link to aviation.

Your challenge is to soar above each of these on the silent wings of a glider.

The introduction of GPS data loggers makes it easy to compete and easy to score.

  1. To find the peaks, load the 55 turnpoints into your loggers memory.
  2. Make your flight above any or all of the peaks.
  3. Download and submit your flight.

There is no need to make a declaration. You can take as many days as you like.

Colorado offers the soaring pilot a rich natural environment to hone their skills. The powerful Western air facilitates flights of great distance and amazing altitudes.

The challenge was created to encourage pilots to make this journey.
